"UP ON THE WINGS OF THE WONDER SONG"

Like a wounded bird

driven by storm

I seek some shelter

a place to nest

to fold my fainting wings

and rest

against the warm sweet breast

of love

my weary heart knew little of

then surely strengthened,

I shall fly in a far more promising sky.

Love Excelling

In a field of summer flowers

The lovers dream away the hours

While battles are raging

Kingdoms are falling

Disasters are occuring

There are famines appalling

Are the lovers then selfish?

Because they are oblivious to it all?

Oh no, love must go on

Though kingdoms fall

For God made love

As the only consolation we know

And the flesh and the spirit testify so

A New Beginning

A new beginning to a never ending tale

And love came along like a song without

fail,

And the new horizon you give to me

So I can almost see eternity

And oh, the joy of letting go

And this one thing I always know

Love treats well those who are true

So I promised to go the distance with

you,

And when we are old my love won’t grow

cold,

It will remain as fervent as ever

And come what may we’ll face it

together

And body and soul know it to be

A love for now and eternity.

A dance, a promise

And a kiss

A life of bliss where sunlight beams

If such be the stuff of dreams

Then let love be a dream

And all men dreamers

And let my dreams be all of you

And in the fullness of time

Let them all come true.

Dawn

A dressing dawn’s adorning

I must needs exalt the faultless sky

exalt but I to my distress

can find few words

that would express

it’s unveiling morning glory

while far exceeding that of I

a feathered friend attending to

this self same view

from dew kissed tree

and seraph song tells its story

excelling any melody

each wonder note a joyful cry

ringing, winging heaven high

its cry a raptured serenade

a far more fitting accolade

than any poet’s ever made

to dawn upon the sky.

The Power of Love

The beauty that is truth dieth

never for that which lights the lamps of heaven

must endure forever

and if love be true mark it well

it can conquer any hell

can plumb the sea

can span the sky

and prove the dream need never die

can set man free on golden wings

so he can try undying things

so let the lamps of heaven shine

for the beauty that is truth

makes you mine.

I can slay a dragon any day

provided it’s made out of paper mache.

Let Us Dream

Come let us dream

while the night is upon us

for love is a dream far better than all

for too soon the dawn

will be upon us

and the castles we built

will tumble and fall.

Changes

A piece of wood and a dream in mind

with infinite patience and loving care

a craftsman worked a piece of wood

and that piece of wood

unremarkable at the start

became a coveted work of art

Now his namesake sits at a machine

and processes a thousand pieces a day

with nothing to tell them apart

such is progress, but where is the art

.Coming Home

On ill-favored wings

I’ve flown too long

my heart ever weary

my life without song

then I’ve found sweet refuge

from fears that annoy

so I rest in your heart

with immeasureable joy

content to nest, reluctant to roam

for you’ve taught me to sing

and at last I’ve come home.

The Rose

Like a rose parched by the sun

I need some care until my blooming is

done Tree for shade, a cloud for rain

So I’ll not have opened my petals in vain

Then let me wither, and let me die

What care I?

I go the way of the soul set free

To bloom forever for his majesty.

The Seasons of Love

A love I had at autumn

In blaze of brilliant flame

With every leaf a lovely sheaf

Of singular acclaim

With Gypsies dancing in the lane

A gusting wind in the trees

A love I had at autumn

Who put my heart at ease

A love I had at winter In the snowflake wonderland

With the sparkle and the glitter

And the glow of something grand

With the sleighbells and the carols

The cup of Christmas cheer

A love I had at winter

Who promised to be near

A love I had at springtime

With every garden green

With every blade and blossom

Bursting to be seen

With showers sweet with sunshine

The lark upon the wing

A love I had in springtime

Who taught my heart to sing

A love I had in summer

In lazy days of dreaming

With veils of haze upon the hills

A glory in the gleaming

With castles in the seashell sand

A kite upon a string

A love I had in summer

Who took me on the wing

A love I had at winter

Springtime, summer and at fall

But the love I have

Right here and now I love the best of all.

As to Life

We are the sand within the glass

that’s running out, despite the shout

to be heard before we pass

From life to death to life anew

Where the sands of life are never through.

The Journey of the Soul

“Oh can you tell me the way to the kingdom”

The pilgrim said to me

“I’ve come along way

forever and a day

Determine at last to be free”

I showed hin the cruel cross of shame

on which my saviour had died

He is the way

come kneel and pray for you he was crucified

Is it then too late?

he said with a cry

Have I come all this way in vain?

I showed him the tomb

A small empty room

Where once my saviour had lain

He is risen, I said

the way to make known

take up his cross and see

With the faith of a child

Be at last reconciled

Acknowledge him now and be free

He took up the cross the burden was light

He walked where my saviour had trod

And the promise held true

He found life anew

In the glorious kingdom of God

Love

If God so made

This love of ours

It will outshine

the brightest stars

for they will fade

at break of day

While our love will continue

on its way

And one day reunite

above with he who is the God of Love.

Down with Superman!

Once a giant killer feared by one and all

Then someone invented Superman

And now I’m three feet tall.

The Last Leaf

Like the last leaf on the bough

My hopes are pinned on you

And now

I see the leaf begin to fall

But I’ll not grieve for I recall

That in the spring hopes reborn

And one day on that bough forlorn

Will be a leaf or maybe two

And we’ll walk beneath them me and you.

The Flower of Love

Only one flower

And one flower only

can ease the pain

And comfort the lonely

And only one flower do I extol

The flower of love

that brings joy to the heart

And peace to the soul.

Wisdom

Life to the wise is a hope and a plan

Working together to perfect the man

Life for a fool is a dance and a song

And a laugh at those who hurry along

And to each must come a reckoning day

A rod to the fool

A reward to the wise

And which is which

May come as a surprise.

The Seed

I hid a seed within your heart

I hid a seed and watched it start

On its way to life anew

By the love I had for you

And when it bloomed with love for me

I picked and kept it tenderly

In my heart for ever more

For you are all I do adore.

Nightscene

The song is ended

The long day is through

Shadows lie still at eventide

And at peace, love

I rest with you

Night gathers us in its arms

And in sleep we seem

Half-way to heaven

Kept in a dream.

Flower Power

First the bud and then the flower

Then a vision of loveliness

Hour by hour

As the petals open ever so wide

Revealing the glory there inside

And we who cannot merely pass by

Give our thanks to the Creator on high.

A Beginning

A lot of a good thing

is better than a little of nothing

So I exchanged a little of nothing

A dream I knew wouldn’t come through

For a lot of a good thing

the reality of you.

War

A dream down on the dying ground

War weary eyes espy

A vision of village green

A belated awareness

Of some quiet scene

Lovely with the light of all life

Shell-stunned ears hear

Some trite melody

Now swelling into a symphony

And there at the edge of eternity

He smiles amid the strife.

Untitled

Bird song and sun bright

Not all dancers do delight the eye

But this I know

I shall not cry

Though many troubles tower high

Obscure the sun

I’ll dare the storm

I’ll see it done

For with the help of God I’ll stand

Much nearer to the promised land.

The Plea

I’m only the man doing the best I can

Trying to understand what’s right or wrong

Not some hero of story or song

So couldn’t you love me anyway

Even if it’s only for a day.

Castles

Just say you love me

And I’ll not look for castles in the air

For our hovel will be castle enough

For you’ll be there.

Spring

There’s an angel harping in the breeze

And all the trees are dressed for spring

There’s a promise in the April sky

for the very best of everything

The first fruits of the spring

The flowers blush and beam

And there’s a fragrance sweet as Shalimar

and hope for every dream

Oh, the very earth has come to birth

New life is teeming everywhere

And rills are singing down the hills

And there smiles enough to spare

Oh that it were always spring

As some day it may be

When men at last are at peace with God

For all eternity.

The Vacant Lot

A fledgling caught in ecstacy

Storms the lazy air

Spills a gush of melody

In frolic or the fair

A speckled amber ball of fur

Suckles on a rose

A bee that sups a downy throat

Of blushing beauty in repose

A model fleck of gossamer

Flits about the site

A butterfly in quiet quest

Tranquillity in flight

A satin cup of angel tears

Cradled in a bed of moss

A bluebell blossom brimmed with dew

A gem of finest floss

In a thickets musky heart

A crickets saw it’s serenade

While perched upon a blade of green

Snug within a secret shade

Mid the tendrils trembling leaves

Webs of woven wonder cling

Strings of silver silk and twine

A spider spinning for a king

Wafted on a stir of air

Like mingled magic scents delight

Each drowsy dragon fly day

Each frisky firefly night

A vacant lot and not acclaimed

Unnamed unknown so it’s been

A world apart in the city’s heart

Unique and unforeseen.

To Verna My Love

Twenty years with the one adored

Twenty years of faith restored

Twenty years of blessedness

Twenty years of happiness

Twenty years of you and me

Living in sweet harmony

And another twenty years or more

With the one I do adore

God grant that it be so

For greater bliss I’ll never know

So whether joy, toil, pain or tears

I wish for another twenty years.

The German and I

We sit at ease exchanging fond memories

Convivial companions who see eye to eye

The German and I

Yet short years ago

If our ages were so

We might have hated and hunted

Each other, to try

To kill for a lie

The German and I. -----------

Here’s to the Vander of Zalm

A chip off the old Bennett Dam

We don’t dig ‘em, we sneer

He’s one up on McGeer

n leaving us here in a jam.

High Country

Oh for a mountain high in the sky

To scale ‘til my heart’s content

A venerable giant girdled in snow

Prone to the wind’s lament

Oh for a friend at the end of my rope

One who is steady and true

So that even in the face of death itself

Together we’ll see it through

And oh, for a camp high on a ledge

In a cleft of ageless stone

A keep in the clouds of celestial shine

A sojourn there shall atone

For the hectic madness of things that be

Below in the cloistered world

While we the giddy, young galahads

Can fling our banners unfurled

While staunchly roving the roof of the

world,

Nigh to the astral stream

What more can one ask ‘til heaven itself

Discloses it’s ageless dream.

The March of Time

The cities rise, the cities fall

Their splendour crumbles into dust

Time marches on and in its’ wake

Kingdoms mighty lie in ruins

Silent, humbled in the sand

Curiosity pieces of the land

Where once there ruled by the sword

Enslavers of the fathers

Of the present curious horde.

The Horizon

The road like a mighty arrow

Shot from a titan’s bow

Ran straight and true

To meet its’ mark

Over the prairie vast and stark

To sink its’ barb

In the bleeding breast

Of the crimson sky Of horizons west.
